500,000 Celebrate New Year in Moscow

MOSCOW -- Half a million Muscovites thronged the streets of the Russian capital to ring in the New Year, including 30,000 in Red Square, AFP quoted Interfax news agency as saying. More than 4,500 police were on duty and no major incidents were registered. However 92 people required medical assistance after being injured by exploding fireworks because of drunkenness, police told Ria-Novosti. Twenty-six of them were hospitalized.
